Condition: Macular Degeneration
Byron Benton, age 91, was prescribed a pair of binocular Spectacle Miniature Telescopes (SMTs) for reading. Previously he had been trying to use a magnifier that he found it awkward, heavy and tiresome. Mr. Benton likes to read his Hartford Courant and New York Times newspapers every day. He states he needs some more practice getting use to them, but he is reading the papers every morning.

Helen Bidwell likes to read in her lap. She was given low vision therapy and practiced reading 10 minutes 3 times a day for several weeks until she regained some of her reading ability. She will now start writing her checks and paying her bills with her binocular SMTs.
