Bioptic telescopes, a type of SMTs, are used for seeing in the distance by providing 2-4 times magnification depending on the power used They can be used for driving, walking, theater, television, seeing faces, signs and any distance spotting task.
Dr. Kinkade's Bioptic SMT Success Stories
The telescopes are drilled through the lens and mounted toward the top of the spectacle lens (the carrier lens). The telescopic eyepiece (ocular lens) is positioned slightly above the patient's pupil. The telescope is tilted up an average of 10 degrees. This allows the patient to look under the telescope eyepiece using their normal vision most of the time. When the patient wants to see more detail a slight lowering to the head aligns the telescope with the eye for enhanced vision.
